Manufacturing with an Agile and Flexible Mindset
Holger Weintritt, EVP Head Pharmaceuticals Product Supply at Bayer, kicked off PMWS 2024. Weintritt set the stage by emphasizing the importance of agility and flexibility in manufacturing processes. His memorable remark, “Easy to fool your supervisor, hard to fool your peer,” resonated with Colleen, highlighting the significance of peer accountability in cultivating a culture of excellence and innovation.
Strategic Expansion Roadmap
Following this session, Colleen attended Flemming Dahl‘s SVP Head of Product Supply Fill & Finish Expansions at the Novo Nordisk session. Colleen enjoyed Dahl’s session on strategic expansion, which covered filling and finishing facilities for global growth. His emphasis on the importance of standards and the condition that “standards are great as long as it is your own” encouraged Colleen to reflect on standardization in a globalized industry.
Data Doesn’t Lie – Digital Marketing ROI
Shifting gears, Martin Smyth, SVP of Go-To-Market Strategy at MasterControl, shared insights into the intersection of data and marketing ROI during his session. Colleen found his advocacy for quality reviews done by exception intriguing.
Proactivity – the Future of Quality
Next, Colleen attended the session of Anthony Mire Sluis’, SVP Head of Global Quality at AstraZeneca. Anthony Mire-Sluis explained his vision of replacing SOPs with videos, which would signal a paradigm shift in quality management. His proactive approach to quality assurance struck a chord with Colleen, inspiring her to reflect on driving transformative change within her organization.

Driving Transformation in Quality
Similar to the last discussion, Colleen attended Robin Kumoluyi‘s, VP & Chief Quality Officer at J&J Innovative Medicine at Johnson & Johnson, quality session. Kumoluyi’s driving transformation in quality left a lasting impression on Colleen. The concept of “flipping the ratio” resonated deeply with her, underscoring the transformative power of data-driven insights and AI in streamlining processes and enhancing efficiency.
Becoming a Best in best-in-class supply Chain Network
Catalina Vargas, SVP of Global Supply Chain at Bristol Myers Squibb, shared insights into supply chain optimization. Catalina emphasized establishing a clear vision and metrics for creating optimal supply chain efficiency for releasing medication more quickly. Vargas’ quote, “Don’t underestimate the time and energy it takes to make change”, resonated with Colleen.
Sanofi Manufacturing Transformation
Daniela Ottini, SVP of Manufacturing and Supply Head of Specialty Care at Sanofi, shared her session on manufacturing transformation. The emphasis on accelerated launches and leveraging AI for scale production resonated deeply with her, inspiring her to explore innovative approaches to manufacturing excellence. Additionally, Ottini highlighted three types of AI- Expert, Gen, and Snackable. She explained that Expert AI leverages massive computational power to refine processes, Gen AI streamlines process improvements for enhanced productivity, and Snackable AI facilitates day-to-day decision-making for operational agility.
Pharma Manufacturing Insights- Automation Innovation with AI
In Amy Doucette and Jordan Croteau‘s session, Colleen gained valuable insights into the transformational potential of AI in manufacturing automation. Their emphasis on unlocking human potential through AI struck a chord with Colleen, prompting her to explore opportunities to integrate AI into her organization’s manufacturing processes.
