We are excited to welcome Mr. John Daley to the Compliance Architects® team, as he joins us as a VP Subject Matter Expert! With over 30 years of experience in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries, John brings a great deal of industry experience to our team.
John shared his thoughts on joining the Compliance Architects team! Here’s what he had to say:
“I am thrilled to be a part of this team. I’ve known the founder, Jack Garvey, for over twenty years and I knew that if I ever transitioned to consulting, I would have to be with a firm that was not only technically excellent but also one that had the highest ethical standards with regard to doing what is best for the client. With Compliance Architects, I have found both.”

Professional and Educational Experience
John Daley joins Compliance Architects with 30+ years of experience in FDA regulated industries. Most recently, while John was Chief Quality Officer at JUUL Labs, he secured ISO-13485 certification for JUUL which was the first and only company in that space to have that certification. John has held Head of Quality positions at divisions of Johnson & Johnson, Boston Scientific, and IBM Watson Health where he was also the head of Privacy and Security.
John has deep knowledge and experience with Design Controls and how to create a value-added CAPA process. John has experience in combination products, Medical Devices (all classes, implantable and disposable), pharmaceuticals, and consumer packaged goods.
John has a BSME from the University of Rhode Island and an MBA from the State University of New York in Albany, NY.
What is your favorite aspect of your current role?
I am looking forward to being able to really help clients benefit from the experience I have gained over the years. I can’t wait until they get to benefit from some hard earned wisdoms without having to go through the “hard earned” part.
Can you share a memorable experience from one of the best places you’ve ever visited?
I enjoy visiting Japan a great deal. The people are wonderful and, if you look for it, you can find a great deal of history lurking about. It is not as open and obvious as any European city but it is there. My most memorable experience has to be having been in Japan during the Fukushima earthquake.
What activities do you enjoy for fun?
I enjoy hiking and photography. I live in a beautiful area with an abundance of trails and natural beauty so it is very gratifying to just get outside and be part of it. It is especially fun when I can combine that with some photography. I also love traveling to new places and seeing history in the places it was made.

What’s your go-to favorite food?
I have two: Sushi and a properly cooked and seasoned Ribeye Steak.
Any advice you’d like to offer on maintaining quality compliance?
As you can see from my resume, I have made a habit of joining troubled companies and helping them right their ships, so to speak. From that, I have learned that it is almost never one or two big bad decisions that got them away from goodness. It was a culture that didn’t properly value and understand quality and compliance coupled with dozens (hundreds?) of sub-optimal decisions. It’s very much like the lines from “The Sun also Rises”:
“How did you go bankrupt?” Bill asked. “Two ways,” Mike said. “Gradually and then suddenly.”
Just like that, a company finds themselves in trouble.
So . . . My advice is to make sure you know what your culture demands and try not to make a habit of being “just good enough”.
